Tell us a little about yourself!
I am a Grade 12 high school student, soon heading to university! I am a passionate environmentalist and the majority of my life has been dedicated to my environmental advocacy. I am also an avid cat lover! 🐈
Tell us about your #MakeWaves project.
This isn't specifically for me, but for another member in my community.
Her name is Leona Green and she has been spending all of quarantine making food and donating basic necessities to the seniors in need in New Westminster. She has been at the forefront of generating support in our community, and her selflessness has truly inspired me.
Every day, she uses her own time and resources to prepare food for those who are vulnerable in these distressing events. She has garnered support from local police and the fire brigades who help her to deliver the food to the seniors in our community.
She has even gone so far as to organize Easter packages for families who would not have been able to celebrate with their children.
I wish I could contribute more to help her, which is I why I am applying for this! I have helped a few individuals with the delivery of groceries, however, due to the pandemic, I am not able to assist as much as I would like. I truly want to provide my community with more support in any way possible.
Who inspired you?
All the members of my community! Not just those in need, but also the many who are devoting their time to those who need help, like Leona Green.
She is the owner of a local Cafe called Greens and Beans and always led altruistic projects in our community.
I am also a member of a Facebook group called New West Helping Hands, where all New Westminster members may request or offer help.
Although this pandemic has shown me just how evil and inconsiderate some people can be, my community has demonstrated true generosity and has given me hope in the kindness of humanity.
