Making masks for the most vulnerable

Mikaella, Vancouver BC

Tell us about yourself.

My name is Mikaella, I'm one of the co-founders at Vessi. I've lived in Vancouver for the past 16 years and am proud to call this beautiful city my home.

Tell us about your #MakeWaves project.

For this project, I'm purchasing materials and making homemade masks to distribute among those who are in need.

Why is this important to you?

To stop the spread of COVID-19, we must stand together and do our part to flatten the curve. We can start with our personal hygiene and acknowledge how this can affect our community.

What are you hoping to accomplish?

Hopefully, by providing those who don't have access to masks or resources to make then, we can help the community flatten the curve quicker.

A message to the community.

We're in this together so let's do our part and continue to spread small acts of kindness and positivity around us. Stay safe!

I was able to support local businesses by purchasing the materials needed for the masks. Spool of thread is a local Vancouver business that provides really fun, creative fabrics to kick start your crafting journey :). Here are a few examples of the fabrics I was able to snag.
