Care Packages For Essential Workers

Tell us a little about yourself!
My name is Liz and I am a registered nurse at a local hospital at the Jersey Shore.
This pandemic has literally turned my world upside down: work is scary and busy, graduate school is now completely online, friends and family are stressed beyond belief and local businesses are struggling to survive.
To change the subject to something more cheery I love the beach, preppy fashion, mermaids, and helping others.
Helping and giving has always been my ‘love language’ since a young age and it truly has gotten me to the career path I have today.
Tell us about your #MakeWaves project
Growing up at the shore, community is everything, no matter if it’s your family and friends, your coworkers, or your neighbors. It hurts my heart to see so many struggling not just as a nurse but across the state; the shore is known for our family owned small businesses and restaurants and it hurts my heart to see people suffering.
If given this wonderful opportunity I have two ideas in mind: 1) would be to buy treats, tulips (from a nearby family run farm whose survival is on the line) and other essentials from local small businesses to make mini care packages for essential workers (supporting our local community and those on the front lines.
Or option 2) to buy things like hair ties, compression socks, toiletries and more to bring to the amazing staff going above and beyond every day in my hospital’s Emergency department and Intensive Care Unit.
Giving and helping are my ‘love languages’ and have been since I was in grade school and led me to this career path. These are just two of the many ideas I wish I had the ability to fund.
Who inspired you?
My local community and essential workers like nurses/ doctors, grocery workers, first responders, and more.We are all in this together... that is the quote that inspires me to help not only fellow nurses but other individuals working hard everyday to help people through this scary time.
Businesses, like yours, supporting healthcare workers and providing supplies is truly inspiring and heartwarming, more than words could really express. We need each other to get through this day by day I’m also open to suggestions if selected for this amazing opportunity!
I hope that this would inspire others in my community or following along on my Instagram to do what they can to brighten someone’s day or help a stranger.
