Tell us a little about yourself!
I am a recent graduate from the University of Calgary from the education program. Currently, I work in the field of public health, serving the community through health education and educating students and seniors about the importance of healthy eating and exercise to maintain our physical and mental well-being! Outside of work, I love rock climbing, landscape photography and find inspirations in the little things surrounding us! Although this pandemic has been a sudden change in my routine, I'm learning to rest, slow down and find gratitude in the little things and take the time to do things I normally wouldn't be able to do with a busy routine.
Tell us about your #MakeWaves project.
Brown Bagging for Calgary's Kids is a local charity in Calgary that helps feed hungry kids with lunches.
Statistics has shown that 1 in 10 households experience food insecurity, inadequate or insecure access to food. Places like schools were a place where kids had access to breakfast and lunches when they could not eat at home. With food, students are able to learn and flourish better and reach their full potential. Now that schools are closed and kids are experiencing a whole new way of learning, kids and their families are struggling to have access to food but Brown Bagging for Calgary's Kids has found creative ways to deliver food with volunteers and I would love the opportunity to donate to this local charity so that they can continue to provide food to families in need.
I believe that small actions makes a huge difference in the community and through this funding, I hope that a larger amount of kids are being fed.
